Law Enforcement

The sculpture of Sirius will represent all law enforcement animals, both police dog and mounted police teams, and pays tribute to all first responders as well.

Officer David Lim and Sirius

The sculpture of Sirius in the Memorial will show him “alerting” to the American flag, his gaze looking up to the heavens. He wears badges on his chest representing the heroes of 9/11, his own K-9 badge, a NYC police Officer badge, a Firefighter badge, and a Dove medallion for our lost citizens.

Sirius is a poignant symbol of the valor and sacrifice by the police and first responders, who along with the brave service animals who accompanied them on that awful day, unhesitatingly raced into the horrific scene as it unfolded, putting themselves on the line to save lives.

Sirius was a loyal English Labrador Retriever who was an Explosives Detection Dog with the Port Authority Police at the World Trade Center. Bravely and tirelessly working with his handler, Officer David Lim, they responded heroically to the chaotic events of the day. In the end, Sirius was the only K-9 to die during the 9/11 tragedy.

San Francisco Mounted Police attended a special “Bark and Wine Ball” fundraiser held by “Critter Lovers at Work”(CLAW) which is known today as the National Service Animals Memorial. Also in attendance was retired Navy SEAL Trevor Maroshek and his Retired war dog/assistance dog “Chopper”.
