Our Timeline

Millions of animals have served and even made the ultimate sacrifice along with their handlers throughout U.S. history in support of our safety, security and independence.

Come join us on this exciting journey to make history!

On December 29, 2022, President Biden signed into law our bipartisan bill (H.R. 6353/S. 3447) that was “rolled in” to the omnibus bill authorizing our 501(c)3 nonprofit, National Service Animals Monument Corporation (DBA National Service Animals Memorial), to build and fund the first Memorial on federal land in the nation’s Capital honoring service animals and their handlers.

We are currently in the Site Selection and Fundraising phase. Here is our TIMELINE:

1. Create The Vision

Our Founder/Artist envisioned this memorial recognizing that it was important to have a national memorial in DC honoring the life-changing and life-saving work, and sacrifice of service animals and their handlers through U.S. history.

2. Secure Congressional Support

The National Service Animals Monument Corporation (NSAM-pronounced ENSAM) received strong bipartisan support, and bill (H.R. 6353/S. 3447) was “rolled in” to the omnibus bill authorizing our 501(c)3 nonprofit, National Service Animals Monument Corporation, to build and fund the first Memorial on federal land in the nation’s Capital honoring service animals and their handlers. It was signed into law by President Biden on December 29, 2022.

3. Raise the Funds

We raised the funds for Phase 1 for the site selection process and we are now in Phase 2.

As is the case with most federal memorials, the National Service Animals Memorial must be funded completely through private donations. The cost for building the memorial, currently estimated at $20,000,000, must be raised prior to construction.

4. Secure the Site

NSAM is currently working with a premier site selection consultant in DC in cooperation with the National Parks Service to determine the best possible location in Washington D.C.

5. Design the Memorial

Our artist will realize her vision by designing the Memorial to fit the site, which will be submitted to the Fine Arts Commission for approval.

6. Build the Memorial

Once all the funds are in place and the design is finalized, construction of the Memorial will begin.

7. Unveil the Memorial

The unveiling of the Memorial will mark the beginning of bringing this national treasure for generations to enjoy every day of the year.
